The £100k Meningitis Pledge
We’ve pledged to raise £100,000 for Meningitis Now.
So far, we’re at £100,000
In 2014 B&A Group pledged to raise £100,000 for Meningitis Now, to help fund research into a vaccine to eradicate all strains of the meningitis virus. We aim to reach our total through sponsorship of personal challenges by our employees, and in partnership with our customers and suppliers.
Meningitis is a cause close to our hearts, as B&A have a personal connection with the charity founder, Steve Dayman MBE, who sadly lost his son to the disease. Over the past 35 years the charity has been involved in the development and introduction of meningitis vaccines, saved lives through awareness and helped people rebuild their lives after meningitis with their free specialist support. Meningitis Now seeks a future in which no one in the UK needs to lose their life due to this disease, and where everyone who is affected by it gets the support needed to rebuild their lives.
At B&A Group our specific aim is to help fund the pioneering vaccine programme taking place in the Spencer Dayman Laboratory at the University of Bristol, which has a goal of eradicating all strains of the meningitis virus.
Over the years we have taken on a range of events to raise funds, including competing in the Bristol Half Marathon, the Three Peaks Challenge, the Five Valleys walk, the Fabulous Virtual Walk, organising quizzes, cakes sales, raffles, gala dinners, sponsored bike rides, attending events like the South Gloucestershire Show and our ever-popular pop-up lunches.
In 2019 we launched our very own hot air balloon, G-JIMA at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta as a way to help raise awareness about the work of Meningitis Now. Since then, we have taken part in numerous ballooning events including the West Midlands air show and the Longleat Sky Safari, where pilots from all over the world take to the skies over Longleat in a four-day event.
We are determined to reach our target and want to thank all of our generous customers, suppliers and staff for all of their kind donations and commitment to help us get there. If you would like to make a donation please click the link at the top of this page.
“My relationship with B&A Group stems back over 40 years. The Founder of the company, the late Jimmy Berkely, was one of my dearest friends, a truly remarkable man. He would be so proud of his family for taking the company to be leading specialists in their industry. All through this time the B&A Group have supported the meningitis cause, raising tens of thousands of pounds. Their latest pledge to raise £100,000 to support research into the prevention of meningitis at the Spencer Dayman Meningitis Labs at the University of Bristol is well on target. Without the continued support of this unique company it would make our task so much more difficult.”
