This month, we’re proud to be celebrating B&A Stone Supplies' 3rd birthday, and what a year it has been!
B&A Stone Supplies (BASS), recorded spectacular results in 2022 to continue its upward trajectory toward the groups aspirations.
As the South West’s leading supplier of recycled and quarried aggregates, the launch of a dedicated quarried aggregates division was a natural next step, allowing us to provide our customers with a fully integrated service and our progression into the third year didn’t disappoint.
Whilst the division is predominantly a three-man team, working closely with Group Sales Manager, Ashley Bruno, we have gone from strength to strength each and every year. BASS achieved a turnover in excess of 10m in 2022 which is an incredible achievement!
Our dedicated trio lives and breath aggregates, providing a second-to-none service to our valuable customers which has resulted in the huge success that this venture has seen so far. The business has secured major topsoil, recycled material and muck shifting contracts enabling us to become a leading one-stop shop for all material in and out of site, as well as offering cost-effective recycled aggregate solutions across the South West.
The three fundamental members of the team: Stuart Palmer, Reeko Best and Dave Price, further cemented themselves into the very core of aggregate supplies and the B&A Group with a strong development of both themselves and the business. Dave and Reeko in particular are now starting new roles in planning and commercial respectively following their successes that have been seen throughout the year.
The success of the business has allowed us to support local workers by securing several new haulage contractors who are now benefiting from regular work in their local area. Our early payment terms and exceptional standards enabled us to move into new locations and take on increased volumes of material.
One of our customers also asked if we would be willing to travel with them outside of our traditional area. These sites included Hampshire, Cornwall and Devon as well as the surrounding areas and thanks to Reekos firm focus on business development, we were able to accept. In addition to this, we branched into other new areas including Wiltshire, South Bristol and in particular Somerset.
Whilst our dedicated team remained at a total of three, additional support, ideas and involvement came from every corner of the group, something Stuart commented on:
“The support and confidence in us is fantastic and we are very thankful to many members of the team we work with, we can discuss and agree new ideas and see them through from start to finish”.
One of the key highlights from 2022 has to be a major contract secured for the period of February to November. We supplied and delivered 125,000 tonnes of aggregates (often moving over 800 tonnes per day). Not once did Dave fall short or under-deliver, despite the mammoth task that he faced, with challenges along the way.
As part of this major contract, we also secured a major cart away project, running from November 2022 to March 2023 as well as an order for the delivery of 15,000 tonnes of Topsoil which was overseen by Division Manager, Stuart Palmer. Working directly with the client, Stuart commented:
“To be given an opportunity like this was something that allowed us to showcase the abilities of B&A Stone Supplies and the benefits this can bring to a major project. In addition to this, we can be versatile when needed and can supply our clients with any other products and services offered by B&A Group. We are very proud of the service we provided on this project and the tremendous feedback received by our client”.
Our main aim for our third year was to get B&A Stone Supplies in a position to be able to undertake any contract, regardless of size or volume. Thanks to our dedicated vehicles and experienced personnel, this has been achieved with results significantly exceeding our expectations. Our customers can always expect quality materials, fast delivery and efficient service regardless of who they are or what they require. We follow a consistent approach ensuring lead times are minimal, so our customers can expect their materials as early as the very next day!
Heading into our 4th year, we continue to focus on growth and have strong ambitions for the years ahead. Although the market may have shrunk slightly in 2022, we have still been able to outperform ourselves again which gives immense hope for the future. We will continue to improve our offering in the areas we currently service, as well as working with clients, both old and new, in developing areas by creating new supply chains and securing new haulage contractors.
There is no doubt that this is just the beginning for B&A Stone Supplies, so be sure to keep an eye out for our iconic orange lorries across the South West and beyond!
